A lifelong painter and native Californian, Debra works both in the studio and en plein air, painting throughout the region. Recent painting adventures include a pack trip to Lake Ediza in the Eastern Sierras, and trips to Yosemite National Park, Joshua Tree National Park, and Bishop, California. Her paintings capture the fleeting light, subjects, and events that often, on closer inspection, reward the viewer with small details often overlooked by the casual observer. Highly collectible, Debra’s work is frequently included in juried museum and themed gallery exhibitions and invitational shows.Debra’s art career began at age two with a tube of red lipstick and her cooperative dog, followed by a crayon wall mural unsuccessfully hidden behind a chest of drawers. After receiving her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Advertising Design, she moved to New York City where she studied portrait and figure painting in oils for six years at the Art Student’s League of New York. In addition, she studied en plein air for three summers in Central Park. Debra painted regularly en plein air in Prospect Park, Brooklyn until returning to Southern California in 1996.
